Tilkynning frá almannavarnadeild ríkislögreglustjóra og lögreglustjóranum á Norðurlandi eystra:

  • Áfram rýming á húsum á Siglufirði
  • Áfram hættustig Veðurstofu Íslands á Siglufirði vegna snjóflóðahættu og óvissustig á Norðurlandi

Áfram er spáð snjókomu og vindi næstu daga á Norðurlandi.  Í dag féll snjóflóð  í Héðinsfirði, en ekki bárust tilkynningar um fleiri flóð.  Af þessum sökum verður áfram í gildi óvissustig vegna snjóflóðahættu á Norðurlandi og hættustig á Siglufirði með rýmingum. Óvissustig er á Siglufjarðarvegi vegna snjóflóðahættu.  Íbúar sem rýmdu hús í gær fá að fara heim undir kvöld til þess að sækja hluti og huga að eigum sínum undir eftirliti lögreglu en fá ekki að dvelja þar.

Í dag tókst að opna Siglufjarðarveg og veginn um Ólafsfjarðarmúla, en honum verður aftur lokað kl 20:00 í kvöld vegna hættu á snjóflóðum. Búast má við truflunum á samgöngum á meðan þetta ástand varir og er fólk hvatt til þess að fylgjast vel með tilkynningum Vegagerðarinnar – Auk þess er vegurinn um Ljósavatnsskarð á óvissustigi vegna snjóflóðahættu. Þá var tilkynnt um að krapastífla hafi verið að myndast við brúna yfir Jökulsá á Fjöllum og er fólk beðið um að hafa varan á sér þegar farið er um þann vegakafla.

Varðskip Landhelgisgæslunnar, Týr, liggur inni á Eyjafirði úti fyrir Dalvík og verður til taks á meðan hættuástand varir.

Almannavarnadeild ríkislögreglustjóra, Lögreglan á Norðurlandi eystra, Veðurstofa Íslands og sveitarfélagið Fjallabyggð fylgjast áfram náið með þróun og stöðu mála.

Notification from the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management and the Police Commissioner in East Iceland:

  • Continued evacuation from the houses in Siglufjörður.
  • Continued danger alert by the Icelandic Met Office in Siglufjörður, due to avalanche danger and uncertainty phase in North Iceland.

A forecast for snow and wind is in place for the coming days in North Iceland. An avalanche fell today in Héðinsfjörður, but no other avalanches were reported. For this reason, an uncertainty phase will continue to be in effect due to the risk of avalanches in North Iceland and an uncertainty phase in Siglufjörður, as well as evacuation. An uncertainty phase is in effect for Siglufjarðarvegur, due to the risk of avalanches. Residents who evacuated their houses yesterday will be allowed to go home in the evening to fetch things and look after their properties, under the observation of the police, but they will not be allowed to stay there. 

Siglufjarðarvegur was successfully opened today as well as the road through Ólafsfjarðarmúli, but it will be closed again at 8 AM due to the risk of avalanches. Disturbances may be expected regarding transportation while this situation is ongoing and people are encouraged to closely monitor announcements from the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration – also, the road through Ljósavatnsskarð is in an uncertainty phase due to the risk of avalanches. An announcement has also been made about an ice blockage forming by the bridge across Jökulsá á Fjöllum and people are requested to be alert when travelling through this part of the road.

The coast guard ship Týr, from the Icelandic Coast Guard, is outside Eyjafjörður and will be available for as long as the danger lasts.
