Announcement from the Civil Protection Department of the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police and the Chief of Police in East Iceland:

  • Evacuation protocol in the Seyðisfjörður Evacuation Zone remains in effect.
  • The Civil Protection Crisis Level in Seyðisfjörður remains in effect.

The Civil Protection Department of the National Commissioner of Police, the Commissioner of Police in East Iceland, together with the operations committee and special advisers met this morning to review clean-up operations in Seyðisfjörður.  Today will see warmer temperatures and therefore the team will not be able to operate at full capacity within the zone where the majority of the mudflow impact was felt on December 18th.  Cleaning and repair work will be performed outside that zone and preparations made for the work ahead over the coming week.  The weather forecast is good and efforts can be expected to resume in full force tomorrow.

Although the source of the mudflows is not within the evacuation section, we would like to emphasize that it can be dangerous to traverse the area due to loose strata, mudflow edges and cracks that have formed.

Today’s situation will be monitored closely, with expeditions up to Botnabrún where cracks will be examined and readings made of the movement of strata. No movement was detected this morning but almost no movements have been detected over the past week.

The evacuation protocol that was announced before the end of the year will remain in force as before.

The Civil Protection Service Center is open today at Herðubreið in Seyðisfjörður. Inquiries can also be made by email to sey@logreglan.is and at 839 9931 outisde of opening hours.

Komunikat Departamentu Ochrony Ludności Krajowego Komisarza Policji i Szefa Policji we wschodniej Islandii:

  • Niezmieniony obszar ewakuacji w Seyðisfirði.
  • W dalszym ciągu stan alarmowy dla Seyðisfirði.

Po obserwacjach ekspertów Biura Meteorologicznego i pracach porządkowych w Seyðisfjörður, zdecydowano, że obszar ewakuacji pozostanie niezmieniony przynajmniej do jutra, do południa. Wtedy zostaną podjęte dalsze decyzje.

Departament Ochrony Ludności Krajowego Komisarza Policji, Komisarza Policji we wschodniej Islandii, wraz z zarządem i doradcami spotkali się dziś rano w związku z pracami porządkowymi w Seyðisfjörður.

W rejonie, jaki został wyznaczony do ewakuacji przed końcem roku w dalszym ciągu obowiązuje ewakuacja.

Centrum Departamentu Ochrony Ludności Herðubreið będzie dzisiaj otwarte w Seyðisfjörður. Zapytania można przesyłać na adres e-mail: sey@logreglan.is i dzwonić pod numer 839 9931 poza godzinami otwarcia.
